Sheikh Ismael Ibrahim Al-Mukhtar has been one of the key leaders of the Manitoba Muslim community for over three decades. His extensive and wide-ranging community contributions include serving as president of the Manitoba Islamic Association, editor-in-chief of the Manitoba Muslim Magazine, volunteer imam, and counselor. 
He is an Islamic intellectual, regularly lecturing and writing on Muslim issues. He is the author of two books in English: Manitoba Muslims A History of Resilience and Growth and Milestones in the History of Islam in Eritrea.

His third book in Arabic is scheduled to be released this year.
Mukhtar lives in Winnipeg with his wife and three children. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). He is a recipient of a number of awards from the City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba.
