Jul 10, 2013 | Badr Ethiopia
Badr Ethiopia wishes all of humanity that follows the Islamic faith a blessed month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month of purification, reflection, introspection and self-evaluation. Above all, it is a period of self-consciousness and self-discipline in relation to Allah and His commandments. It states in the holy Qur'an:
"O you who believe! fear Allah as He should be feared and die not except in a state of Islam." [3:102]
Islam is a complete way of life and as such, Taqwa (the reverence and fear of Allah), holds a prime spot in the lives of Muslims as they relate to one another and to the society as a whole. It is a straight path that avoids deviation from the truth and brings one closer to his or her creator. As we observe this holy month of Ramadan, we should be cognizant of those who are less fortunate to have the essentials of subsistence living and those who are deprived of peace and tranquility in their war-torn countries at this time of mercy and forgiveness.
This Ramadan also marks the first anniversary of the imprisonment of the Arbitration Committee members in Ethiopia. These men of honor and discipline have taught millions of people how to stand for principle, justice and peace. For these ideals, they have sacrificed the prime time of their lives and have exemplified patience and perseverance in the face of hardship and religious persecution. We implore Allah to reward them for their long, strenuous and fatiguing labor. We also salute them as we wish them and all Muslims all over the world the blessed month of Ramadan.
